Colorado Democratic Party Chairman Shad Murib of Eagle spoke Monday morning, June 12, at the Coffee Trader on Main Street in Montrose to about 40 people regarding the party’s new voter registration and turnout program, the 546 Project. That’s the number of votes businessman Adam Frisch needed to defeat Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Republican, in last November’s 3rd Congressional District election.
Murib told the gathering the state Democratic Party is going to be “fiercely aggressive” in voter registration and intends to reach out to those Democrats who did not vote in 2022. The stop in Montrose was day five of a statewide tour.
When rolling out the 546 Project last week, Murib told the Montrose Daily Press that he believes that Colorado’s more rural areas of Colorado — traditionally considered Republican strongholds — should be considered in play for Democrats in future elections. The state party chair also identified Boebert as “singularly focused on being famous and causing chaos.”
On the local level, Kevin Kuns, chair of the Montrose County Democratic Party, told the Daily Press last week that he intends to focus local outreach efforts on registered not only Democrats but also non-affiliated voters and those affiliated with other parties.
“When you cut away the politics, we just need representatives that actually care about everybody that they represent,” Kuns said.
